Liz is an Outdoor Childcare Practitioner from Bearsden who has used the BetterPoints app to encourage her to tackle hills, spend more time socialising and use public transport to travel longer distances.

“For my job, I encourage all the children in my care to come along with bikes, and we make a Bike Train to get wherever we need to be, such as exploring different parks. I try to teach the kids about sustainable travel. I also do supply work, and only choose nurseries that I’m able to cycle to.

Whilst I already cycled sometimes to work and with my husband, the app has 100% changed the way I travel, and the way I’m motivated to travel. When I go down to see my mum in Ayrshire, I’ll take public transport now. Getting there is only slightly longer. The buses when I get there are fantastic, and because I’m over 60 it’s free, which is a great motivation!

Previously I’d have looked at a hill and thought, 'I can’t take my bike there because it incorporates that climb'. However, now I get BetterPoints for walking it up, I’m more than happy to cycle somewhere, jump off and push my bike up! It’s a steep incline up to where I do supply work. Sometimes I cycle it, and other times I can’t be bothered and walk but I get points either way!

A few of us are in a running club, and because of BetterPoints we’ll all make a point of meeting up beforehand and walking to the gym together to make sure we get our points!"

Well done to Liz, our latest Leave the Car Star and winner of 25,000 BetterPoints for sharing his story. Want to be like Liz and 100s of others across East Dunbartonshire earning rewards for their sustainable journeys? Scan the QR code below or tap the buttons at the bottom of the page.
